The unit came well-packaged and nicely documented. I cannot say installation was a breeze, but it was reasonably easy with the supplied documentation for someone skilled in electronics and common appliances. So I did a little more testing and concluded that the hygrometer within the manage unit was failing. I contacted the seller and they were extremely helpful and sent me a replacement manage unit. I installed the new unit and again saw exactly the same factor: Just to be sure I pulled out the new control unit and measured humidity in my garage, exactly where the furnace is installed. I did some more testing, and concluded it was successfully failed. I have to admit I did not get in touch with the seller once more, they might have sent me an additional replacement unit, but at that point I was simply to tired of fiddling with the unit. I decided I might be installing the manage unit in the narrow space between the heater and the humidifier which would fool the unit to provide a much lower reading but I am questioning if it is worth the work. However the unit has only an automatic mode, which means it will usually depend on the faulty reader for turning around the humidifier.

A low voltage short is a lot like finding a needle in a hay stack. First off, does it blow the fuse every time immediately on start up or is it random? Hi Mathew, it blows the fuse every time at start up! You have to eliminate one possible source at a time until you find the short. The first thing to do is take all the low voltage thermostat wires loose from the furnace; both the wire from the thermostat and the wire from the outdoor unit.
Take a jumper wire and place it from the R red wire to the G green wire on the furnace and see if the fuse still blows. If it doesn’t blow then you know it is nothing internal to the furnace. Then, take and hook the thermostat wire back up but this time leave the outdoor unit wire loose. If it doesn’t blow with the outdoor unit off line, then you know the problem is in the outdoor unit or within the wire leading to the outdoor unit.
If this is the case, then hook the outdoor unit wire back up to the furnace; then go outside and unhook the wire from the outdoor unit. If the fuse blows, then you know the wire to the outdoor unit is bare and touching something somewhere from point A furnace to point B outdoor unit. If the fuse still blew when you had the outdoor unit off line then you know the problem is the thermostat or the wire to the thermostat. So same situation, take the wires loose from the thermostat’s sub base and twist the red and green or yellow wires together to see if the fuse still blows.
If it doesn’t blow, then the problem is the thermostat.

I have an Aprilaire bypass humidifer installed with the Aprilaire 56 Humidistat. I need to put in a power humidifier in place of the bypass one. The humidistat currently has the manual mode resister connected, but I want to add the automatic functionality to the new power humidifier once installed. If I can re-use the aprilaire humidistat it would obviously save money by not having to buy a power humidifier that comes with an automatic humidistat.
Could not find power requirements for the HE , but found the following info on the 56 H-stat: Aprilaire duct mount low voltage electronic humidistat. Comes with outdoor air sensor. They wouldn’t be able to add much moisture to the air. Should our humidifier be connected with hot or cold water? All of our flow-through units can be connected to hot or cold water. Hot water increases the evaporative capacity of your humidifer, provides more humidity to the home and offers more flexibility in the operation of the humidifier.
Some of our units can use hot air and cold water. All humidifiers need some source of heat for evaporation to take place whether it is hot water or hot air. We would recommend that if our power units are installed on the return ductwork, that they be connected to hot water, as this is their only heat source.
Heat pumps and large capacity installations need hot water. Heat pumps are not hot enough for evaporation and some larger installations need maximum capacity so they will need to use both hot air and hot water. The Model should be connected to cold water due to the wicking Water Panel as it cannot be guaranteed that the water will stay hot while waiting for the next heat call on the Water Panel.
